Registering to Vote

Postal Vote

Proxy Vote

If you are not sure if you are registered to vote, it will not hurt to register again. You will still only get 1 vote.

It’s very easy and you can register online in less than 5 minutes – you just need to provide your National Insurance Number, your full name, date of birth and address (BUT you can register even if you don’t know what your National Insurance Number is).

Just go to https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

Since you now need to show certain types of photo ID to vote in person (see below), it’s even more convenient to register to vote by post than before.

  • You can register to vote and then immediately request a postal vote online:
  • Just go to https://www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote
  • If you are unsure how to do it, you can have someone else help you register online — this is perfectly lawful. You can ask your friends or family, or get in touch with us ASAP.
  • Alternatively, you can ask Harrow Council to send you a voting registration pack (but they strongly recommend using online registration).

Photo ID

To vote in person, you now need to have one of certain forms of photo ID.

  • The photo on your ID must look like you.
  • You can still use your ID even if it has expired.
  • The list of allowed photo ID is:
    • a UK or Northern Ireland photocard driving licence (full or provisional)
    • a driving licence issued by an EU country, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, the Isle of Man or any of the Channel Islands
    • a UK passport
    • a passport issued by an EU country, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein or a Commonwealth country
    • a PASS card (National Proof of Age Standards Scheme)
    • a Blue Badge
    • a biometric residence permit (BRP)
    • a Defence Identity Card (MOD form 90)
    • a national identity card issued by the EU, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein
    • a Northern Ireland Electoral Identity Card
    • a Voter Authority Certificate
    • an Anonymous Elector’s Document
  • The system is set up to make it easy for older, retired people to vote, but is harder for younger people. However, you can get a photo ID for FREE, called a “Voter Authority Certificate”.
  • You can apply for this at https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificate
  • If you have any questions or need help registering, please get in touch by email at info@ariseparty.org.uk
